On Behalf of | May 2, 2023 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

Whether you are a parent who worries about your teen’s safety on the road or you are a teen who drives or rides in vehicles with your friends, it is vital to go over motor vehicle accident data and risks. Every year, car crashes leave many teens with devastating injuries, and such an incident could turn your life on end in various ways.

Sometimes, teens become involved in accidents due to inexperience, peer pressure, texting behind the wheel and other factors. However, some responsible and cautious teens also find themselves in serious accidents due to the negligence of others.

Statistics on accidents involving teens

According to data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 220,000 teens between the ages of 13 and 19 suffered injuries in traffic collisions over the course of 2020. Sadly, traffic accidents resulted in the loss of roughly 2,800 teen lives in 2020. To think about this data in a different way, hundreds of teens suffered injuries and eight died in traffic collisions during an average day in 2020.

Teens and traffic crash risk factors

The CDC states that male drivers, newly-licensed drivers and unsupervised teen drivers are particularly likely to become involved in traffic collisions. The chances of an accident are especially high for those who drive with other teens or young adults in the vehicle. Driving at night, speeding and alcohol also play a role in many accidents involving young drivers.

Realizing these risks and prioritizing road safety is paramount. That said, even the most cautious teens can become injured in a car crash because of a reckless driver, and you deserve a voice if you find yourself in this position.
